Christian Barbier
Spain
Christian Barbier is the middle son of Priorat's most legendary family (Isabelle & René Barbier Sr), currently working as the head vinegrower of the estate. Born and raised surrounded by vineyards, vats and barrels, accompanied by his deep knowledge of Priorat’s licorella soils, Christian started working in Montsant to produce his first personal wine based on the "wisdom" and complexity of Garnacha Fina plants cultivated according to biodynamic and sustainable principles. Indeed, the village of "La Figuera" in Montsant is considered to produce the best expression of Garnacha in the whole region. Actually, the local clone of Garnacha is named Garnacha Fina due to its delicate thin skin that results to extra finesse. The grapes for the DeUniDo wine come from the Finca "La Coma" parcel on white clay soils, at 600m elevation. Grapes are farmed naturally, hand harvested, with one week of maceration with 10% of the stems, fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Ageing for 5 months in stainless steel tanks, bottled unfined, unfiltered and without added SO2.
Déu N’hi Do! A Catalan expression, exclusively used in rural Catalonia as an exclamation almost impossible to translate in English. Literal meaning is something like “God gave it!” something like “Wow!” or “It’s amazing!”
